The 2000s: A Music Odyssey I Empty The 2000s: A Music Odyssey I

Every Sunday on the BBC classical radio channel they play a tape of nature sounds interspersed with music. Last Sunday one of the pieces they played was "Dawn" by The Cinematic Orchestra, which bowled me over. It led me to seek out Man with a Movie Camera, the album it comes from. Here is "Dawn" preceded by an opening "melody" and followed by the stunning "The Awakening Of A Woman". The whole album is worth checking out!

I wasn't a massive fan of Franz Ferdinand, but I remember when this single came out in 2004. I could of also seen them live before they got big at a local venue---I turned it down. Looking back I think I should of went.

Nevertheless the riff in this song is cool.

It's a good album but this track is outstanding!

It took a while to get into them but Sparks are one of my favourite bands these days. "Wunderbar",
which samples a German football commentator to hilarious effect, was long missing from YouTube.
Thankfully, it's there now. It can be found on the deluxe edition of the 2002 album Li'l Beethoven:

Yoko Ono reached the grand old age of 85 today. Seems she's had some great
mixes made of her music in recent years. From 2007, this is The Brother Brothers
remix of "Yes, I'm a Witch". Lovely stuff. Hearty congrats to the lady in question.

I remember listening to everything on this list of songs by Mr. Marsland
(http://www.adammarsland.com/adamatoz.html) in early 2015. This
rich and varied musical odyssey helped get me through a dark period.

"I in 4" contains one of my all-time favourite couplets:

"When my baby and I are together in bed
I swear she sees my body on another man's head"

That said, the lyrics are pretty dark. Check them out at http://www.adammarsland.com/1in4.html:

Snow Patrol played this on Jools's show earlier on. "Chasing Cars" is a gem...

Anyone familiar with the DiCaprio filming of The Great Gatsby should recognize this from the party scene at the great man's house:

Funnily enough I actually listened to that album the other day. First time in years! I saw Fleet Foxes live at the Glastonbury Festival, 2009---was brilliant!

This is simply gorgeous. I can understand too much shoegaze can f*** with your head but this EP, Slowdive's album Souvlaki and a couple of songs (Ride's "Leave Them All Behind" and Drop Nineteens' "Kick The Tragedy") are great to drift away on. The 2000s: A Music Odyssey I Rolleyes

This is a beautiful track from a beautiful album. With thanks to the captain aka Luther for introducing me to it at Smiley. (It seems like a hundred years ago.)
