Instrumentally Speaking

Let us surf right into a topic we had on the old board posting the classic tracks we had there and some new ones to boot. What is better that to start off with these wonderful surf guitar classics from the 1960`s.
Track: 'Pipeline'---The Chantays
Track: 'Walk Don`t Run'---The Ventures
Track: 'Miserlou'---Dick Dale

Good call, Ms Mod.
This is the track I identified after 40 odd years (some of them very odd). Called "The Kid",
it's by Belgian organist André Brasseur. There's a big mix-up on YouTube and elsewhere
owing to the fact that the labels of "The Kid" and and other side, "Holiday", got switched...

I was reminded of this track while watching an episode of The X-Files when there were bits of it during a dance sequence with zombies.

Nice track. The 1963 original by the Vince Guaraldi Trio is also worth a listen...
I`ve heard the original. It didn`t really do all that much for me.

Love the spaghetti western feel of this track.

That nice Mr. Tubey served me up this juicy morsel the other night. I've always been intrigued by Frank Zappa's "Dupree's Paradise" since hearing a snippet of it years ago on an intelligent Dutch music programme. Frank has a great little band to play it, the same lineup as on Over-Nite Sensation. It might even be the best band he had up till then. Cool solos from Jean-Luc Ponty on electric violin (the high point of the performance), Bruce Fowler on trombone and FZ himself. But I'm most fascinated by percussionist Ruth Underwood, although she doesn't have a lot to do on this track.

A three-month gap between posts is long, particularly in a topic as broad as this. Anyway... I seem to recall a strange topic about eggs in music at our previous abode. This cool guitar-fuelled track by Treason Theory, "Eggs In The Pan", may have been in it--it's certainly old enough to qualify:
There's only very scant online information about Treason Theory. I adapted this from Facebook:
"Treason Theory Music Productions is an independent musical recording and production organization. The main members are Maurice Cunningham and Rob Harris. Other musicians can and have joined in to contribute to T.T.M.P.'s recordings and more are certainly welcome. All songs are written, played and recorded by Treason Theory, unless otherwise noted. We are neither treasonous, nor have any real theories about treason. It's just a name."

Here's a cool instrumental from 1969 that I'd forgotten about completely until Mr. Tubey jogged my memory (such as it is):

That nice Mr. Tubey pointed me at this slab of '70s space funk yesterday. Very tasty!

Here's one from my youth (1963 to be precise)--"Fly Me To The Moon", in the instrumental hit version by Joe Harnell:

I've no idea how I got to this track--Mr. Tubey moves in mysterious ways. Anyway, these are Faces (no, not those Faces) with "Searching", an instrumental take on a track originally done vocally by Change (or so my spies tell me). Love that squelchy opening bass line!
