One of the best Goth bands to come out of the 1980`s. This track is considered one of their masterpieces off of the album Phantasmagoria. One can hear it as a soundtrack to a vampire horror movie, our vampire contemplating a love lost, a world of dark---the essence of Goth.

Yes indeed! Some cool fantasy landscapes there. I remember you playing other tracks from Oil and Gold back at the Old Bored, most notably "Nemesis".

These are Fields of the Nephilim from their 1988 album The Nephilim. This is the only Goth CD I ever bought. I asked a Goth colleague of my brother what was a typical Goth album and after giving it some thought he suggested this one. "Shiva" is one of my favourite tracks from it:

I don't know where this belongs so I'll post it here, in DJ's topic. I've been listening to a lot of stuff by The Birthday Party and their predecessor The Boys Next Door. I got there by way of Nikki Sudden, who at one point collaborated with Rowland S. Howard. This is "The Friend Catcher" from the 1980 album The Birthday Party by The Boys Next Door. My brain hurts already!

Caught this cool track by Rowland S Howard yesterday. "Still Burning" comes from Honeymoon in Red, an album recorded in 1982 with Lydia Lunch. It features two fellow Birthday Party-goers Mick Harvey on drums and Tracy Pew on thunderous bass. Wonderful stuff!

Wow yes -- thanks! I see he and Lydia Lunch did a cool cover of Lee & Nancy's "Some Velvet Morning":

This is "Golden Age of Bloodshed", the last track on Pop Crimes, RHS's last album released in late 2009, mere weeks before his death aged 50 from liver cancer.
Rest in peace, Rowland.

How about this? A 1978 demo of what is arguably Rowland's most famous composition, "Shivers", performed by Young Charlatans (see link for more info):

It is cool how you are listening to RSH stuff and early Nick Cave/Bday Party. Why don't you check out this - it's all connected.

Thanks, Rich. "The Beast" is amazing! Didn't you see them live at some point?
I've just taken a detour via Ollie Olsen of The Young Charlatans to his next band, Whirlywirld, and the so-called Little Band scene in Melbourne around 1980. Lots to explore there!

I seem to have landed the ultimate catch, the nine-piece punk-funk outfit Use No Hooks. They have an album out (called The Job) of almost all previously unreleased 40-year-old material and very good it is too!
Their lineup is (to the best of my knowledge):
Vocals: Stuart Grant, Denise Rosenburg (both from Primitive Calculators), Marisa Stirpe (from The Take) and Wendy Morrissey
Guitar: Mick Earls
Keys: Matt Errey and Phil Nichols
Bass: André Schuster
Drums: Arne Hanna (from Michael Hutchence's side project Max Q)
Occasional sax: Simon Grounds (with grateful thanks to Mylene at Hoffman for that fact).
The blurb on the BandCamp page is most illuminating, as is the fantastic music:

I have seen Teho and Blixa live on their first album tour (In London in a Church which was cool) and I have seen Blixa live with Neubauten. I have also met some of the band as well, with side projects, etc. I also did a side project band - 2 piece like Teho and Blixa in the past with my mate... All good fun.

Was this the gig, at Union Chapel in 2014? That must have been amazing!
