Hard to believe 40 years (today) have passed by since we lost this extraordinarily talented man. RIP Keith.

Track: Keith Moon drum solo 1974.

Lots of great songs in the new BBC drama series Trust, about the Getty family. Here's one from 1972:

This three-song medley used to get played a lot in Paradiso, Amsterdam's "pop temple", prior to concerts. We bought the album after that--the medley still sounds superb. Dig the crazy backing vocals on "Hey Julia"! RIP Robert Palmer and other musical cohorts on the album.

Not a big fan of ELO like many people are. I just don't see it, but hey, different tastes and all. However, this was always my favourite from Jeff Lynne.

It's an odd one for a favourite;

This live version is brilliant. Just listen to the tone on that Gibson, awesome!

After hearing a brilliant song by the Action, I  read them up and discovered that the singer on that 45, Reg King, left soon after and in 1971 made a stunning and criminally obscure self-titled album. This is the opening track:

I was a navigator for a Manchester-based charity called Community Transport, which collected unwanted furniture and delivered it to the needy. Regrettably I have absolutely no sense of direction! The 1970`s: Can You Dig the Get Down and Boogie, Baby - Page 2 Laugh

(Actually it might have been the Stratford Road. This was in 1973.)

It was AGD who unwittingly reminded me of this striking 1974 single by Jobriath:

Last night I listened to Judee Sill's gorgeous second album Heart Food on YouTube. As is YT's wont, play lists often include occasional live versions of tracks."The Kiss" was one of them. I have stuff by Judee on CD but I've never played it--a situation that sorely needs redressing!

I noticed someone mentioned Love's "7 And 7 Is" at Smiley and it reminded me of this arithmetically questionable UK hit by Medicine Head from 1973. Of course I myself often put 2 and 2 together and make 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971 etc.

Prompted by my mini series devoted to Holst's The Planets at PSF, this is King Crimson's take on the opening movement, "Mars, the Bringer of War". From the band's second album, "The Devil's Triangle"  must be one of their most troubled outings. This is the first half:

Thanks to Jeanster at Smiley for alerting me to this fine album by ex-Scaffold member Mike McGear, Macca's brother:

When I lived at the squat in Notting Hill in 1972, Hawkwind's "Silver Machine" was a big hit. It seems Lemmy (who sang on it) used to drop into a couple of pubs in Portobello Road I myself frequented and play it on the jukebox. (I do remember hearing it a lot.) I wouldn't have recognized him then, so we may well have been in the same pub at the same time. Great song. Good times. Cool

"SM" was only added to In Search of Space in 1996 as a bonus track.

Got a friend who has seen and met Hawkwind many times back in the day.

"The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" is often mentioned in conjunction with "Leaving This Town" because of the solos (as is the case now at Hoffman). I remember being knocked out by this track when I first heard it in 1973, two years after it was released:

Not sure if I'd want to get down and boogie to "The Song Is Over" from Who's Next. It's just been on my mind recently, is all. I remember when I first heard it in 1972, at a party blasting out of a speaker box mere millimetres from my ear.

Gerry Rafferty's debut solo album Can I Have My Money Back? is one of my wife's all-time favourites. This is arguably my favourite track from it, "Don't Count Me Out":
