Those Norman carvings around the door are sensational! Those corbels too. I see one is highly erotic, a so-called Sheela na gig. It seems the site of the church has been occupied since Celtic times. There are also the ruins of a castle nearby (I don't remember seeing them in the video). And what a setting! The Travel Thread - Page 5 Rolleyes

Another fascinating and educational MR trip through England's heritage.

Thanks John! Seeing those carvings was something else! I filmed the castle and went up the Motte. But I didn't add it in the video as I wanted to purely focus on Kilpeck Church.

Can I ask, however. When you search the sites I visit. Is it via the "Wiki" link I put in the description? I need to gauge a ratio of people who actually do so.

Me too! I like the Gothic effect they give off, especially on church's as well. Kilpeck Church, however, is quite unique.

No, I google the name and get to Wikipedia that way, or visit a heritage site. I can't visualize that link at all! The Travel Thread - Page 5 Tongue

I tend to go my own way in these things so maybe I'm not a typical MR follower in that respect.

Fair enough. But do you know it's there, as you must see it in the description box, you've mentioned the artist of the track in the background before and that's in that section? The Travel Thread - Page 5 Tongue

Thanks for those, Rich. I only just saw them (not paying attention as usual).

As for the wiki leak link, yes I've seen it and I'll use it in future. In the past I've looked for sources besides Wikipedia that might give more specialized or inside information, so I may still do that.

Your latest trip is bookmarked for when I get peed off with work, lol.

I was seriously peed off with work this morning so I watched the vid. The Travel Thread - Page 5 Tongue Another MR classic. Beautiful house! As commenter s p says, the woodwork is magnificent. The Travel Thread - Page 5 Ohmy

I see it was briefly home to Catherine Parr and visited by 'Enery 'Imself and Catherine Howard. Can't be bad. And it's haunted--a bit of it anyway--by a grey lady. Love that first piece of music. The Travel Thread - Page 5 Rolleyes

But, as DGQ noted, no serving wenches. That's something you're going to have to redress in future, Rich. The Travel Thread - Page 5 Laugh

I visited this castle today. I didn't film for MR due to the sheer amount of people there and how you couldn't film inside. Now, that has not stopped me in the past (i have no fear!)... However only two rooms were open to view! I was not impressed. The exterior was good , though. If you haven't seen my latest video for May---check it out (above)! It was a local one. Smile

Anyway here's a picture i took of the castle today.

Those windows are gorgeous! (So is the music--another cool vid there, Rich.) I see Edward Burne-Jones the Pre-Raphaelite artist donated some of them. That was in the late 1800s, and your relative would have been active in the mid 20th century? They all look stunning anyway. I can't recall visiting the Cathedral when I lived in Brum in '73. I remember interiors of numerous ale houses and a bierkeller where in my exuberance I broke some bloke's clay tankard during a sing-song. Now I think of it, I did visit the local art museum to see the Pre-Raphaelite paintings of Burne-Jones, among others. An interesting time all round. Wink

Thanks... I've never been inside the cathedral until that day by the way! Similar to how it was with Lichfield (when i filmed that) and I've been past it all my life. It's the third smallest cathedral in England after Derby and Chelmsford. It was beautiful inside I have to say.

On your question. I will have to ask him this week, if i see him, what were the exact dates he worked on the stained glass. I believe it would of been the '60s or '70s---I will get back to you on that one in the coming days.

Brilliant! I used to live near St. Albans and visited it regularly but I can't remember scenes like this, not even on Market Day. I see your mate had Tenacious D on the back of his jacket. Saw them at PinkPop (on the telly)--very tasty! I think if Tenacious D had been there, the Wars of the Roses would have ended very differently, hahaha. king

Great vid, Rich--the only let-down being that no one said "fuck" (just kidding). Good to see some corpses on the battlefield. They give it an air of authenticity. pirat
