Around the Alternative World in 80 Ways: Classic Alternative Rock
on Thu May 02, 2019 1:28 pm
I recently started a thing on Facebook where I`m counting down 80 alternative rock songs from the 1980`s. This track is the first one. Each day I will post a new track. It can be an obscure track, a well-known track, or an album track. I`m mostly making it up as I go along.
#1 'Planet Claire'---The B-52`s
*Note: Comments are welcome. I would appreciate it if you want to post a track please do so on another thread and reference this one. Thanks. (Remember, I have dragons.)

You're addressing me, aren't you. OK, I do have a reputation for highjacking the topics of others.

Great idea, DGQ. I shall follow it with interest and respect.

Yes, I am addressing you and I still can`t see your emoticons. Neither can my dragons and they are unhappy about it. You don`t want unhappy dragons coming after you now do you.

Odd, those invisible emoticons. Ok, I'll conform for once (just because it's you, mind) and use the emotes to my right.

O dear. I try to rule unhappy dragons out of life--especially when what I did wasn't stupid.

Hey, I rather like these!

This was a favorite band of a good friend of mine who died of AIDS. Even though they started out in the seventies, this is off of their last album Avalon, which was produced in the 1980`s.

This track makes it into the 1980`s because Gary`s early albums basically hit the USA in 1980. Love his facial expressions in this video.

Another take on what male masturbation called.
(Don`t worry, female masturbation will also be addressed in a future track.)

"Stand And Deliver" is very cool. Can't beat the Burundi-style drumming!
I'm quite looking forward to your song about female masturbation. I've found a couple of candidates (songs, I mean, hahaha)--curious to see whether one of them is your choice.

Just like Janis Joplin time for Mr. K to get his 'cheap thrills' on concerning female masturbation. #15 on Tipper Gore`s PMRC (Parent`s Music Resource Center) list of the filthiest songs.

Huh, yea, I want to go south and get me some more"
Yes, that's a very nice song and right up Mr. K's street, so to speak.

Eek. I somehow missed your clip of Bono's iconic performance at Live Aid. Far worse perhaps, I couldn't remember it after watching the entire show in 1985!

I'd forgotten all about that one. Is this Jimmy Somerville's finest hour?

I do like the things you're playing, DGQ.

I always associate Talk Talk as a charting band with "Life's What You Make It". So I assume "IML" was their big one in the States. I love this band. And I like this topic.

The funny thing about your last post is the way the video still matches your signature!

Ah, you must mean the dark blue bit in my signature. That dates from my days at the Capitol Board so it's been around for nearly 15 years! Great song, great album.
